Weather Forecast - challenges and future directions

Scientific and professional conference with international participation

12 - 13 November 2026 | Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology | Svetošimunska 23, Zagreb

The connection between humans and weather, as well as our daily dependence on meteorological conditions, is constantly increasing, especially in this era of climate change and increasingly frequent and intense extreme weather events. Consequently, the importance of timely and reliable weather forecasts is growing, across all time scales – from a few hours and days ahead to seasonal and even annual forecasts.

The objectives of the conference are to:

• discuss ways in which meteorology can improve its products, especially weather forecasts, with the aim of ensuring safety and smooth continuation of human activities;

• exchange knowledge and the latest scientific achievements in the fields of synoptic and general meteorology, numerical modelling, climatology, applied meteorology, environmental protection and sustainable development;

• strengthen the communication between the scientific community and users of meteorological data and products, the general public and the media, as well as

• actively promote and popularize meteorology.

The conference is open to all users and providers of meteorological information.

The expected outcomes of the conference include:

• strengthening interdisciplinary cooperation between meteorologists and users from various social and economic sectors as well as

• raising awareness of the importance of quality and continuous communication among all relevant stakeholders.
